As goalkeepers at The Keeper Institute we consciously acknowledge the importance of having great relationships with our teammates, and more specifically with our goalkeeper training partners. Training in a comfortable environment with training partners that are both motivating, and compassionate are amongst the more important aspects of becoming the best goalkeepers that we can be. This week The Keeper Institute took its first ever field trip in effort to build these relationships to their highest potential.
Our day ‘kicked’ off with an opportunity that most soccer gurus could only dream of. The TKI family had the privilege of watching, and more importantly experiencing Sky Blue FC’s training session. Sky Blue FC is part of the National Women’s Soccer League, and home to our very own Jill Loyden. At the conclusion of training, TKI students of all ages and their families had the opportunity to have a meet and greet with Sky Blue FC players for pictures, autographs, and some ‘Q & A’. Being exposed to the professional level of play, of which many of TKI’s students dream of playing, offered much insight to ‘our goalkeepers of the future’. This experience was able to show TKI students what it takes to play at the highest level of the game, and ensure them that it is possible if you work hard and never give up! In addition to the direct exposure of the professional game, the TKI family was able to spend some quality time building and expanding their personal relationships.
For a change of scenery from the soccer field, TKI students and their families gathered for some beach time at the Jersey Shore after training. The TKI beach day aimed to let the girls build more personal friendships with each other as well as with the coaches, in a relaxing atmosphere. However, relaxing in the sun did not have any affect on the competitive edge, that us goalkeepers all contain. Our ‘Kan Jam World Cup’ got pretty intense, offering everyone countless laughs and serious work on our Frisbee skills.
The Keeper Institute as a whole expanded their soccer knowledge, had a fantastic day at the beach, but most importantly grew closer together as a training family. We are eager to get back on the field at training next week having lifted our relationships to the next level, and we are already looking forward to planning our next TKI field trip!
A special thanks to Sky Blue FC for allowing our girls to have such an incredible experience, as well as to all of the TKI students, and family members that were able to attend the first ever TKI field trip.
